La Californie n&rsquo;est pas la seule \u00e0 prendre des mesures pour <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/family\/archive\/2022\/06\/american-high-school-later-start-time\/661211\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">am\u00e9nager les horaires scolaires<\/a>. Les \u00e9l\u00e8ves d\u00e9clarent qu&rsquo;en quittant l&rsquo;\u00e9cole plus tard, il leur est plus difficile de participer \u00e0 toutes les activit\u00e9s extrascolaires qu&rsquo;ils souhaiteraient.<\/p>\n<p>La<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@ceproctor\/time-management-for-teens-is-your-teen-totally-overscheduled-bbfd8f1c639f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gestion du temps<\/a> devient d\u00e9licate pour certains d&rsquo;entre eux qui essaient de faire leurs devoirs l&rsquo;apr\u00e8s-midi et le soir, alors qu&rsquo;ils ont moins de temps. Un autre probl\u00e8me mentionn\u00e9 par les \u00e9l\u00e8ves est celui du transport, en particulier pour ceux dont les parents les emm\u00e8nent \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9cole sur le chemin du travail. Les horaires de l&rsquo;\u00e9cole ont peut-\u00eatre chang\u00e9, mais pas ceux du travail des parents. Pour certains, cela signifie qu&rsquo;ils doivent se faire d\u00e9poser plus t\u00f4t \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9cole ou trouver un autre moyen de s&rsquo;y rendre.<\/p>\n<h2>Ce que disent les experts<\/h2>\n<p>Les autorit\u00e9s scolaires et gouvernementales, pour la plupart, ne modifient pas les horaires de l&rsquo;\u00e9cole au hasard ou pour leur propre commodit\u00e9. Il est bien \u00e9tabli que le sommeil, tant en quantit\u00e9 qu&rsquo;en qualit\u00e9, est \u00e9troitement li\u00e9 \u00e0 la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthypeople.gov\/2020\/topics-objectives\/topic\/sleep-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sant\u00e9<\/a>, aux performances cognitives &#8211; y compris la <a href=\"https:\/\/healthysleep.med.harvard.edu\/healthy\/matters\/benefits-of-sleep\/learning-memory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">m\u00e9moire et l&rsquo;apprentissage<\/a> &#8211; et au bien-\u00eatre mental. Citant l&rsquo;American Academy of Sleep Medicine, les Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommandent aux adolescents de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/sleep\/features\/schools-start-too-early.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dormir 8 \u00e0 10 heures<\/a> par nuit. Le rythme <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nigms.nih.gov\/education\/fact-sheets\/Pages\/circadian-rhythms.aspx#:~:text=Circadian%20rhythms%20are%20physical%2C%20mental,the%20study%20of%20circadian%20rhythms.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">circadien des<\/a> adolescents a tendance \u00e0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uclahealth.org\/sleepcenter\/sleep-and-teens\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00eatre plus tardif<\/a> que celui des enfants et des adultes, ce qui signifie que leur rythme naturel est en moyenne de s&rsquo;endormir plus tard et de se r\u00e9veiller plus tard.<\/p>\n<p>Des horaires scolaires plus pr\u00e9coces sont en contradiction flagrante avec ce qui semble \u00eatre le rythme circadien naturel des adolescents, ce qui a conduit m\u00eame les CDC \u00e0 s&rsquo;inqui\u00e9ter du fait que les heures de d\u00e9but des cours sont trop pr\u00e9coces dans la plupart des r\u00e9gions du pays. Selon les r\u00e9sultats d&rsquo;une \u00e9tude men\u00e9e par des chercheurs de l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 de Washington et de l&rsquo;institut Salk d&rsquo;\u00e9tudes biologiques, le fait de retarder l&rsquo;heure de d\u00e9but des cours au lyc\u00e9e permet de dormir davantage et d&rsquo;obtenir de meilleures notes. Les r\u00e9sultats de l&rsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/news\/2018\/12\/12\/high-school-start-times-study\/\">\u00e9tude<\/a>, publi\u00e9s dans la revue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/doi\/10.1126\/sciadv.aau6200\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science Advances<\/a>, ont montr\u00e9 que le fait de commencer l&rsquo;\u00e9cole 55 minutes plus tard se traduisait par 34 minutes de sommeil en plus par nuit d&rsquo;\u00e9cole et par une augmentation de 4,5 % des notes finales de l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<h2>Tous les experts ne sont pas d&rsquo;accord<\/h2>\n<p>L&rsquo;information et la science \u00e9voluent et tous les experts ne voient pas les choses de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re. Des chercheurs sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9s dans la chronobiologie, l&rsquo;\u00e9tude des rythmes biologiques, ont <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronobiology.com\/later-school-start-times-teens-may-not-solution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">compar\u00e9 des<\/a> adolescents europ\u00e9ens menant une vie occidentale moderne typique \u00e0 des adolescents africains menant un mode de vie de chasseur-cueilleur et passant une grande partie de leur temps quotidien \u00e0 l&rsquo;ext\u00e9rieur. Ils ont constat\u00e9 que les adolescents europ\u00e9ens correspondaient au mod\u00e8le de rythme circadien tardif commun \u00e0 l&rsquo;adolescent moderne moyen, ce qui n&rsquo;\u00e9tait pas le cas des adolescents chasseurs-cueilleurs. Au contraire, le rythme naturel de ces adolescents semblait \u00eatre de se coucher t\u00f4t et de se lever \u00e0 l&rsquo;aube.<\/p>\n<p>Les chercheurs sugg\u00e8rent que le rythme circadien <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronobiology.com\/syncing-class-times-to-circadian-rhythms-could-improve-school-performance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tardif des adolescents<\/a> menant une vie moderne typique n&rsquo;est peut-\u00eatre pas un rythme naturel, mais plut\u00f4t le signe qu&rsquo;\u00e0 l&rsquo;adolescence, le rythme circadien peut \u00eatre plus vuln\u00e9rable aux perturbations dues \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re, aux activit\u00e9s et \u00e0 d&rsquo;autres facteurs li\u00e9s au mode de vie qui ont un impact sur le rythme circadien.<\/p>\n<h2>Le mode de vie m\u00e9rite d&rsquo;\u00eatre pris en compte<\/h2>\n<p>Un sommeil suffisant et de bonne qualit\u00e9 est essentiel \u00e0 la sant\u00e9, tant \u00e0 court terme qu&rsquo;\u00e0 long terme. En d&rsquo;autres termes, les choix et les habitudes de sommeil acquis dans la jeunesse peuvent avoir un impact sur une personne tout au long de sa vie. Un sommeil insuffisant et de mauvaise qualit\u00e9 est associ\u00e9 \u00e0 un <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronobiology.com\/poor-sleep-quality-damages-dna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">risque accru de nombreuses maladies<\/a>, notamment l&rsquo;ob\u00e9sit\u00e9, le diab\u00e8te de type 2, les maladies cardiovasculaires et m\u00eame certains types de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/health\/wellness-and-prevention\/lack-of-sleep-and-cancer-is-there-a-connection#:~:text=Disruptions%20in%20the%20body%27s%20biological,melatonin%2C%20encouraging%20cancer%20to%20grow.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cancer<\/a>. Le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellfamily.com\/signs-your-teen-is-overscheduled-4083061\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sur-emploi du temps<\/a> est un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne r\u00e9el et bien trop courant. Si, comme l&rsquo;ont signal\u00e9 certains \u00e9l\u00e8ves, le fait de commencer l&rsquo;\u00e9cole un peu plus tard signifie qu&rsquo;il est difficile de faire co\u00efncider les activit\u00e9s extrascolaires avec les devoirs et autres obligations, il est peut-\u00eatre temps de r\u00e9\u00e9valuer la charge d&rsquo;activit\u00e9s et de fixer des priorit\u00e9s qui refl\u00e8tent davantage les besoins en mati\u00e8re de sant\u00e9 et de bien-\u00eatre, m\u00eame si cela signifie supprimer une activit\u00e9 ou deux pour lib\u00e9rer du temps pour un meilleur sommeil.<\/p>\n<h2>Un point sur lequel les experts s&rsquo;accordent<\/h2>\n<p>Si les points de vue divergent sur les horaires de rentr\u00e9e scolaire et les rythmes circadiens des adolescents, les experts s&rsquo;accordent sur un point : l&rsquo;importance de dormir suffisamment chaque nuit. Il faut f\u00e9liciter les l\u00e9gislateurs et les districts scolaires qui examinent les donn\u00e9es et tentent quelque chose de nouveau &#8211; retarder l&rsquo;heure de d\u00e9but des cours &#8211; pour r\u00e9soudre le probl\u00e8me du sommeil, car ils reconnaissent l&rsquo;existence d&rsquo;un probl\u00e8me et tentent de le r\u00e9soudre. Toutefois, il est important de noter que l&rsquo;heure de d\u00e9but des cours n&rsquo;est pas le seul facteur.
