Dans son projet le plus r\u00e9cent, le groupe de recherche a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 les requins-courants d&rsquo;air. Ces requins sont originaires des eaux de la r\u00e9gion c\u00f4ti\u00e8re de Nouvelle-Z\u00e9lande et mesurent environ un m\u00e8tre de long.<\/p>\n<p>Pour cette derni\u00e8re \u00e9tude, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9e dans <a href=\"https:\/\/royalsocietypublishing.org\/doi\/10.1098\/rsbl.2021.0259\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biology Letters<\/a>, les chercheurs ont suivi sept requins de mer, log\u00e9s individuellement dans des r\u00e9servoirs herm\u00e9tiques. Chaque bassin \u00e9tait \u00e9quip\u00e9 de capteurs d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne permettant de suivre le m\u00e9tabolisme des requins.<\/p>\n<p>En mesurant les niveaux d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dans l&rsquo;eau \u00e0 diff\u00e9rents niveaux d&rsquo;activit\u00e9 ainsi que lorsque le requin semblait dormir, les chercheurs ont constat\u00e9 qu&rsquo;il existait des diff\u00e9rences dans l&rsquo;absorption d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne entre un requin actif, un requin au repos et un requin endormi. Par exemple, le taux d&rsquo;absorption d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne d&rsquo;un requin endormi correspondait \u00e0 un tiers du taux d&rsquo;absorption d&rsquo;un requin actif. En outre, le taux d&rsquo;absorption d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne d&rsquo;un requin au repos \u00e9tait la moiti\u00e9 de celui d&rsquo;un requin actif.<\/p>\n<p>Outre les fluctuations des niveaux d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne en fonction du niveau d&rsquo;activit\u00e9 des requins, les chercheurs ont \u00e9galement constat\u00e9 que la sieste permettait aux requins de conserver leur \u00e9nergie. En outre, la sieste semble ralentir le m\u00e9tabolisme ; la conservation de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie pourrait donc \u00eatre le principal objectif du sommeil chez les requins.<\/p>\n<h2>Les siestes peuvent stimuler l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie<\/h2>\n<p>Si les siestes semblent conserver l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie chez les requins, ce qui leur permet d&rsquo;avoir la puissance n\u00e9cessaire pour les p\u00e9riodes qui requi\u00e8rent des niveaux d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s, les siestes chez l&rsquo;homme ont une relation un peu plus complexe avec l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie. C&rsquo;est normal, bien s\u00fbr, car les humains sont des cr\u00e9atures beaucoup plus complexes.<\/p>\n<p>En effet, notre sommeil est bien plus complexe que celui d&rsquo;un requin et se compose de plusieurs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/healthy-sleep\/stages-of-sleep\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">phases<\/a>, chacune ayant une profondeur et une facilit\u00e9 de r\u00e9veil diff\u00e9rentes. Se r\u00e9veiller pendant les stades les plus profonds du sommeil peut laisser une personne groggy. Les <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.umich.edu\/dept\/psychiatry\/news\/archive\/202011\/power-naps-what-they-are-how-they-boost-your-energy?msclkid=4ee8d6f0afd311ec8d15fe534b1fa0f6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00ab\u00a0power naps\u00a0\u00bb<\/a> tirent parti des diff\u00e9rents stades du sommeil pour en maximiser les b\u00e9n\u00e9fices, comme l&rsquo;am\u00e9lioration de la concentration mentale et l&rsquo;augmentation de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie, tout en \u00e9vitant la sensation de groggy, voire d&rsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/health\/sleep\/how-to-take-a-nap-and-wake-up-refreshed-not-tired\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">irritabilit\u00e9<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Selon le Dr Deirdre Ann Conroy, sp\u00e9cialiste du sommeil comportemental \u00e0 l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 du Michigan, la dur\u00e9e d&rsquo;une sieste classique <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronobiology.com\/the-4-types-of-naps-which-is-best-for-you\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">varie entre 10 et 30 minutes<\/a>. La dur\u00e9e de la sieste permet d&rsquo;\u00e9viter de passer \u00e0 des stades de sommeil plus profonds dont il est plus difficile de se r\u00e9veiller. Selon Sara C. Mednick, PhD, experte en sommeil, la sieste rapide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/balance\/features\/the-secret-and-surprising-power-of-naps?msclkid=4ee8ae22afd311ecbc96d1d580a2dc43\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">permet<\/a> notamment d&rsquo;am\u00e9liorer les performances motrices, d&rsquo;accro\u00eetre la vigilance et de donner un regain d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie. Ce type de courte sieste, surtout lorsqu&rsquo;elle est bien programm\u00e9e, risque moins d&rsquo;interf\u00e9rer avec le sommeil nocturne. Il est pr\u00e9f\u00e9rable de programmer les siestes plus t\u00f4t que plus tard afin de prot\u00e9ger votre rythme de sommeil nocturne.<\/p>\n<h2>Pour certains, des siestes plus longues peuvent \u00eatre utiles<\/h2>\n<p>Selon Mednick, les siestes qui se prolongent dans le sommeil \u00e0 ondes lentes, par exemple celles qui durent de 30 \u00e0 60 minutes, peuvent avoir des effets b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques importants sur le cerveau. Elles permettent notamment d&rsquo;am\u00e9liorer la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 et la m\u00e9moire, ainsi que les comp\u00e9tences li\u00e9es \u00e0 la prise de d\u00e9cision. Elle a \u00e9galement not\u00e9 que le fait de prolonger une sieste jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 90 minutes peut favoriser les t\u00e2ches cr\u00e9atives et la r\u00e9solution de probl\u00e8mes, car le sommeil paradoxal encourage les processus impliqu\u00e9s dans l&rsquo;\u00e9tablissement de nouvelles connexions entre les pens\u00e9es et les d\u00e9tails. Faites circuler votre sang en faisant quelques exercices d&rsquo;\u00e9tirement. Buvez de l&rsquo;eau, aspergez-vous le visage d&rsquo;eau froide et prenez un en-cas sain. Aussi contre-intuitif que cela puisse para\u00eetre, vous pouvez essayer de boire une boisson contenant de la caf\u00e9ine avant votre sieste, afin que la caf\u00e9ine soit \u00e0 son maximum au moment o\u00f9 vous vous r\u00e9veillez de votre sieste, ce qui, esp\u00e9rons-le, \u00e9vitera compl\u00e8tement l&rsquo;inertie du sommeil.<\/p>\n<h2>La sieste ne convient pas \u00e0 tout le monde<\/h2>\n<p>Si la sieste peut \u00eatre utile \u00e0 certaines personnes, elle n&rsquo;est pas le meilleur choix pour tout le monde. Les personnes qui ont des difficult\u00e9s \u00e0 dormir la nuit ou qui souffrent d&rsquo;insomnie ou d&rsquo;autres troubles du sommeil peuvent aggraver leurs probl\u00e8mes de sommeil nocturne si elles font une sieste pendant la journ\u00e9e ou si elles font une sieste trop longue ou trop tardive.<\/p>\n<p>Si vous avez souvent des difficult\u00e9s \u00e0 dormir la nuit et que vous vous sentez suffisamment fatigu\u00e9 pour faire une sieste pendant la journ\u00e9e, il est peut-\u00eatre pr\u00e9f\u00e9rable de r\u00e9sister \u00e0 l&rsquo;envie de faire une sieste et de vous concentrer sur l&rsquo;am\u00e9lioration de votre sommeil nocturne.
