En raison de l&rsquo;importance du bon fonctionnement du cerveau, les maladies neurologiques sont parmi les plus redout\u00e9es au monde. Il existe actuellement peu de traitements pour les maladies qui endommagent les tissus d\u00e9licats du cerveau. Le cerveau est responsable de ces t\u00e2ches et de bien d&rsquo;autres encore. Le cerveau est l&rsquo;organe le plus vital du corps humain, agissant comme un centre de contr\u00f4le pour tous les autres organes et syst\u00e8mes biologiques. En raison de son importance, le cerveau poss\u00e8de des barri\u00e8res sp\u00e9ciales pour le prot\u00e9ger contre les toxines et les maladies qui peuvent \u00eatre pr\u00e9sentes dans la circulation sanguine. Ce syst\u00e8me de d\u00e9fense s&rsquo;appelle la <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brainfacts.org\/Brain-Basics\/Neuroanatomy\/Articles\/2014\/Blood-Brain-Barrier\">barri\u00e8re h\u00e9mato-enc\u00e9phalique<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>La barri\u00e8re h\u00e9mato-enc\u00e9phalique est constitu\u00e9e de cellules tr\u00e8s serr\u00e9es qui entourent les vaisseaux sanguins p\u00e9n\u00e9trant dans le cerveau. Des prot\u00e9ines sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es transportent les \u00e9l\u00e9ments essentiels \u00e0 travers la barri\u00e8re jusqu&rsquo;au tissu c\u00e9r\u00e9bral, tandis que d&rsquo;autres compos\u00e9s restent sur place et ne peuvent pas endommager notre organe le plus essentiel. \u00c0 bien des \u00e9gards, la barri\u00e8re h\u00e9mato-enc\u00e9phalique est semblable \u00e0 une porte avec un mot de passe secret. Il s&rsquo;agit notamment de l&rsquo;isch\u00e9mie (fr\u00e9quente dans les accidents vasculaires c\u00e9r\u00e9braux), des infections c\u00e9r\u00e9brales et des syndromes neurologiques tels que la scl\u00e9rose en plaques et la maladie de Lou Gehrig (SLA).<\/p>\n<h2>Les maladies neurologiques : La destruction des d\u00e9fenses inn\u00e9es du cerveau<\/h2>\n<p>Plusieurs \u00e9tudes diff\u00e9rentes ont sugg\u00e9r\u00e9 que des d\u00e9fauts de la barri\u00e8re h\u00e9mato-enc\u00e9phalique pourraient \u00eatre un facteur de risque pour une maladie neurologique. Les chercheurs ont identifi\u00e9 un petit nombre de g\u00e8nes qui semblent affaiblir la barri\u00e8re h\u00e9mato-enc\u00e9phalique. Les chercheurs s\u00e9lectionnent actuellement une lign\u00e9e de souris g\u00e9n\u00e9tiquement modifi\u00e9es portant des g\u00e8nes qui contribuent \u00e0 affaiblir les d\u00e9fenses du cerveau, dans l&rsquo;espoir de trouver des moyens de stopper l&rsquo;activation de ces g\u00e8nes.<\/p>\n<p>Tant que des traitements visant \u00e0 renforcer la barri\u00e8re h\u00e9mato-enc\u00e9phalique n&rsquo;auront pas \u00e9t\u00e9 mis au point et test\u00e9s, de nombreuses personnes resteront expos\u00e9es au risque de d\u00e9velopper des maladies neurologiques d\u00e9bilitantes. Toutefois, il existe peut-\u00eatre des moyens naturels de renforcer les d\u00e9fenses inn\u00e9es de notre cerveau et de pr\u00e9server la sant\u00e9 de nos tissus c\u00e9r\u00e9braux. La m\u00e9latonine est connue pour inhiber l&rsquo;action de certains facteurs inflammatoires produits par l&rsquo;organisme en r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 l&rsquo;isch\u00e9mie (dommages caus\u00e9s par le manque d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne) et aux infections. Nombre de ces facteurs inflammatoires inhib\u00e9s par la m\u00e9latonine attaquent directement la barri\u00e8re h\u00e9mato-enc\u00e9phalique. La m\u00e9latonine agit \u00e9galement comme un antioxydant, neutralisant les mol\u00e9cules d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne r\u00e9actives qui peuvent endommager les cellules de la barri\u00e8re h\u00e9mato-enc\u00e9phalique et du reste de l&rsquo;organisme.<\/p>\n<p>Une \u00e9tude r\u00e9cente a administr\u00e9 de la m\u00e9latonine \u00e0 des souris souffrant de l\u00e9sions c\u00e9r\u00e9brales. Au bout d&rsquo;une semaine, <a href=\"http:\/\/journal.frontiersin.org\/article\/10.3389\/fnagi.2017.00165\/full\">leur cerveau et leur barri\u00e8re h\u00e9mato-enc\u00e9phalique \u00e9taient moins endommag\u00e9s<\/a> que ceux des souris qui n&rsquo;avaient pas re\u00e7u de m\u00e9latonine. Cet effet \u00e9tait particuli\u00e8rement marqu\u00e9 chez les souris \u00e2g\u00e9es, ce qui sugg\u00e8re que les effets d&rsquo;une suppl\u00e9mentation en m\u00e9latonine pourraient \u00eatre particuli\u00e8rement importants chez les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es \u00e9galement. Cela pourrait expliquer les recherches existantes qui ont montr\u00e9 que les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es qui prennent de la m\u00e9latonine quotidiennement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronobiology.com\/cognitive-impairment-sleep-elderly-need-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ont moins de d\u00e9clin cognitif<\/a> et moins de risques de maladies qui endommagent le cerveau.<\/p>\n<h2>Garder un cerveau fort tout au long de la vie<\/h2>\n<p>Bien que le vieillissement et la mort soient tous deux in\u00e9vitables, la plupart des gens pr\u00e9f\u00e8rent conserver leurs facult\u00e9s mentales le plus longtemps possible. Les syndromes neurologiques tels que la maladie de Parkinson et la maladie d&rsquo;Alzheimer peuvent nous priver de nos ann\u00e9es d&rsquo;or. En outre, la scl\u00e9rose en plaques et d&rsquo;autres maladies frappent souvent des personnes jeunes et en bonne sant\u00e9. Il existe plusieurs moyens de pr\u00e9server la sant\u00e9 de notre cerveau, notamment<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronobiology.com\/circadian-rhythm-confusion-and-resetting-our-internal-clocks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maintenir nos rythmes circadiens synchronis\u00e9s<\/a>, ce qui encourage notre corps \u00e0 produire de la m\u00e9latonine quotidiennement<\/li>\n<li>prendre des suppl\u00e9ments de m\u00e9latonine lorsque l&rsquo;horloge interne est perturb\u00e9e<\/li>\n<li>maintenir une cognition aiguis\u00e9e gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des jeux et des exercices qui font appel \u00e0 la pens\u00e9e de haut niveau<\/li>\n<li>favoriser les relations sociales, dont on a constat\u00e9 qu&rsquo;elles contribuaient \u00e0 pr\u00e9venir le d\u00e9clin cognitif<\/li>\n<li>adopter un r\u00e9gime alimentaire riche en antioxydants pour emp\u00eacher les esp\u00e8ces r\u00e9actives de l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne d&rsquo;endommager le cerveau et d&rsquo;autres organes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bien que nous ne sachions pas encore tout sur la barri\u00e8re h\u00e9mato-enc\u00e9phalique et les maladies neurologiques, il semble qu&rsquo;il y ait un lien \u00e9troit entre les deux. C&rsquo;est particuli\u00e8rement vrai chez les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es, qui courent un risque particuli\u00e8rement \u00e9lev\u00e9 d&rsquo;endommager les tissus c\u00e9r\u00e9braux d\u00e9licats.
