Cependant, les horloges internes ne se limitent pas aux mammif\u00e8res.<\/p>\n<p>Vous \u00eates-vous d\u00e9j\u00e0 demand\u00e9 si les plantes dormaient ? Cette question peut sembler philosophique, mais les chercheurs en chronobiologie ont peut-\u00eatre trouv\u00e9 la r\u00e9ponse. Bien que la recherche moderne en chronobiologie se concentre principalement sur les mammif\u00e8res, ce domaine a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvert lorsqu&rsquo;un astronome nomm\u00e9 Jean Jacques d&rsquo;Ortous de Mairan a remarqu\u00e9 que les feuilles des mimosas semblaient suivre un rythme quotidien similaire \u00e0 celui des humains. Tout comme les mammif\u00e8res, les <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plantcell.org\/content\/18\/4\/792.short\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plantes ont des rythmes biologiques distincts<\/a> et un cycle circadien veille-sommeil.<\/p>\n<h2>Les rythmes biologiques des plantes<\/h2>\n<p>Tous les organismes vivent selon des <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronobiology.com\/about-chronobiology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">horloges internes<\/a>. D&rsquo;Ortous de Mairan n&rsquo;a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 le premier scientifique \u00e0 remarquer des rythmes biologiques chez les plantes, mais plut\u00f4t le premier \u00e0 les \u00e9tudier syst\u00e9matiquement. Carl Linn\u00e9 a remarqu\u00e9 que les fleurs s&rsquo;ouvrent et se ferment \u00e0 des heures pr\u00e9visibles, m\u00eame lorsqu&rsquo;elles sont plac\u00e9es dans une pi\u00e8ce sombre. Darwin a remarqu\u00e9 que les feuilles des plantes semblent \u00ab\u00a0dormir\u00a0\u00bb la nuit. Si l&rsquo;on sait beaucoup de choses sur le rythme circadien des petites plantes, on sait peu de choses sur le rythme circadien des arbres. Une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs hongrois, finlandais et autrichiens a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 d&rsquo;en savoir plus sur la <a href=\"http:\/\/phys.org\/news\/2016-05-laser-scanners-day-night-rhythm-trees.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mani\u00e8re dont les arbres r\u00e9gulent leur horloge interne<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 l&rsquo;aide de scanners laser, les scientifiques ont enregistr\u00e9 la posture des arbres tout au long de la nuit et de la journ\u00e9e. Ils ont constat\u00e9 que les arbres semblent s&rsquo;affaisser la nuit, les branches et les feuilles tombant pendant les heures sombres. Les changements \u00e9taient l\u00e9gers, 10 centim\u00e8tres en moyenne, mais pr\u00e9visibles et li\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;heure. Ces observations ont \u00e9t\u00e9 confirm\u00e9es dans des conditions m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques vari\u00e9es et m\u00eame dans des pays diff\u00e9rents. De nouvelles recherches sugg\u00e8rent que l&rsquo;odeur suit \u00e9galement un rythme quotidien pr\u00e9visible. Les compos\u00e9s organiques volatils produits par la plante sont \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine de l&rsquo;odeur. Comme ces compos\u00e9s sont volatils, ils se dissipent rapidement dans l&rsquo;air et cr\u00e9ent une odeur distinctive qui attire les insectes pollinisateurs. Ce processus \u00e9tant crucial pour la survie d&rsquo;une esp\u00e8ce, il est intuitivement logique qu&rsquo;il soit \u00e9troitement contr\u00f4l\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Les g\u00e8nes qui cr\u00e9ent les compos\u00e9s \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine des odeurs semblent \u00eatre r\u00e9gul\u00e9s en fonction du temps. Les plantes qui produisent des odeurs programment cette activit\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 ce que l&rsquo;odeur soit la plus forte lorsque leurs fleurs sont ouvertes. L&rsquo;activit\u00e9 de l&rsquo;ADN qui produit les compos\u00e9s organiques \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine de l&rsquo;odeur n&rsquo;est pr\u00e9sente que lorsque la fleur fleurit. \u00c9tant donn\u00e9 que la floraison et la production d&rsquo;odeurs sont contr\u00f4l\u00e9es par des ensembles de g\u00e8nes diff\u00e9rents, il existe probablement <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4829607\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">une horloge circadienne inn\u00e9e qui synchronise les processus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>La vie a \u00e9volu\u00e9 sur une plan\u00e8te aux rythmes vari\u00e9s, incluant les jours, les saisons et m\u00eame les cycles de la lune. Ces rythmes naturels cr\u00e9ent des diff\u00e9rences de temp\u00e9rature, de lumi\u00e8re et d&rsquo;\u00e9nergie. Les rythmes biologiques se sont d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s comme un moyen de coordonner notre propre activit\u00e9 avec le monde qui nous entoure, ce qui explique pourquoi toute vie semble avoir une horloge interne.
