Au cours de la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9cennie, les r\u00e9sultats ont \u00e9t\u00e9 surprenants. L&rsquo;exposition au plomb est tr\u00e8s r\u00e9pandue en Chine, en particulier dans les r\u00e9gions les plus pauvres o\u00f9 la peinture au plomb persiste. De plus, des \u00e9tudes montrent que certains jouets pour enfants fabriqu\u00e9s il y a plus de dix ans contiennent \u00e9galement de la peinture au plomb. Bien que des efforts soient en cours pour \u00e9liminer le plomb de l&rsquo;environnement, le probl\u00e8me persiste et pourrait \u00eatre plus pr\u00e9judiciable au sommeil des enfants qu&rsquo;on ne le pensait auparavant.<\/p>\n<h2>Ce qu&rsquo;ils ont fait<\/h2>\n<p>Les chercheurs ont pr\u00e9lev\u00e9 des \u00e9chantillons de sang sur chacun des 665 enfants en 2004, alors qu&rsquo;ils avaient entre trois et cinq ans. Six ans plus tard, alors que les enfants avaient entre neuf et onze ans, les chercheurs ont \u00e9valu\u00e9 et document\u00e9 leurs habitudes de sommeil \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide de questionnaires remis \u00e0 leurs parents. L&rsquo;\u00e9tude a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que les principales perturbations \u00e9taient l&rsquo;insomnie, la difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 rester endormi, la fatigue diurne et le r\u00e9veil tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t le matin. De nombreux enfants ont m\u00eame eu recours \u00e0 des somnif\u00e8res afin d&rsquo;obtenir une bonne quantit\u00e9 de sommeil.<\/p>\n<h2>Comment le plomb affecte le sommeil des enfants<\/h2>\n<p>Une fois la recherche termin\u00e9e pour le premier groupe d&rsquo;enfants, les r\u00e9sultats ont \u00e9t\u00e9 clairs. Les enfants dont le taux de plomb dans le sang \u00e9tait sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 10 microgrammes de plomb par d\u00e9cilitre de sang \u00e9taient deux fois plus susceptibles d&rsquo;utiliser des somnif\u00e8res et trois fois plus susceptibles de souffrir d&rsquo;insomnies fr\u00e9quentes que les enfants qui n&rsquo;\u00e9taient pas ou peu expos\u00e9s au plomb. Cela indique clairement que le plomb, en tant que facteur environnemental, a un impact significatif sur les habitudes de sommeil des enfants. Le plomb est li\u00e9 \u00e0 un certain nombre d&rsquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/lead-poisoning\/basics\/symptoms\/con-20035487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">affections physiques et neurologiques<\/a>. En fait, sans intervention, le saturnisme peut \u00eatre fatal. Bien que les \u00c9tats-Unis continuent de prendre des mesures pour \u00e9liminer le plomb de l&rsquo;environnement, pr\u00e8s de <a href=\"http:\/\/drhyman.com\/blog\/2010\/09\/28\/why-lead-poisoning-may-be-causing-your-health-problems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">40 % des adultes am\u00e9ricains<\/a> ont suffisamment de plomb dans leur corps pour causer des probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9 importants.<\/p>\n<h2>Ce que l&rsquo;\u00e9tude signifie pour l&rsquo;avenir<\/h2>\n<p>Bien que l&rsquo;\u00e9tude montre qu&rsquo;il existe certainement un lien, les scientifiques et les m\u00e9decins ne savent toujours pas avec certitude pourquoi et comment l&rsquo;exposition au plomb provoque des troubles du sommeil. Alors que certains pensent que cela peut \u00eatre d\u00fb \u00e0 des probl\u00e8mes d&rsquo;utilisation de la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronobiology.com\/sleep-2\/melatonin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">m\u00e9latonine<\/a>, une hormone produite dans le corps qui aide \u00e0 r\u00e9guler le rythme circadien, d&rsquo;autres pensent que les perturbations peuvent \u00eatre caus\u00e9es par des neurotransmissions d\u00e9fectueuses dans le <a href=\"http:\/\/healthysleep.med.harvard.edu\/healthy\/science\/how\/neurophysiology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tronc c\u00e9r\u00e9bral et l&rsquo;hypothalamus<\/a>, les parties du cerveau responsables de la r\u00e9gulation de l&rsquo;\u00e9veil. Des recherches plus approfondies permettront peut-\u00eatre de mettre le doigt sur ces causes, mais pour l&rsquo;instant, il est clair que l&rsquo;\u00e9limination du plomb et d&rsquo;autres m\u00e9taux lourds de l&rsquo;environnement est importante pour d\u00e9velopper des habitudes de sommeil saines d\u00e8s le plus jeune \u00e2ge.<\/p>\n<p>De nombreux facteurs perturbent le sommeil des enfants, mais comme le sugg\u00e8re cette nouvelle \u00e9tude, les facteurs environnementaux tels que le plomb jouent un r\u00f4le plus important que ne le supposaient les chercheurs.
