Environ 40 millions de personnes aux \u00c9tats-Unis souffrent de troubles du sommeil, la pr\u00e9valence \u00e9tant \u00e9galement r\u00e9partie entre les hommes et les femmes. Bien que les deux sexes soient \u00e9galement susceptibles de souffrir de troubles du sommeil, il existe des diff\u00e9rences dans les types de troubles du sommeil dont souffrent les hommes et les femmes. Ces cycles sont soigneusement programm\u00e9s par le cerveau pour permettre \u00e0 d&rsquo;importants processus physiologiques, tels que la r\u00e9paration des cellules, de se d\u00e9rouler. Le manque de sommeil a \u00e9t\u00e9 associ\u00e9 \u00e0 de graves probl\u00e8mes de sant\u00e9 tels que les maladies cardiaques, le diab\u00e8te et m\u00eame le cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Cependant, pour les personnes souffrant de troubles du sommeil, il est difficile d&rsquo;obtenir le sommeil n\u00e9cessaire au maintien d&rsquo;une bonne sant\u00e9 et d&rsquo;un bon fonctionnement. Il existe deux types de troubles du sommeil : les troubles centraux et les troubles obstructifs. Les troubles centraux du sommeil sont dus \u00e0 des probl\u00e8mes biochimiques inn\u00e9s dans l&rsquo;organisme, tels qu&rsquo;un faible taux de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chronobiology.com\/sleep-2\/melatonin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">m\u00e9latonine <\/a>, tandis que les troubles obstructifs du sommeil sont dus \u00e0 une obstruction des voies respiratoires qui emp\u00eache un bon repos.<\/p>\n<h2>Diff\u00e9rences entre les sexes en mati\u00e8re de troubles du sommeil<\/h2>\n<p>Si les hommes et les femmes ont les m\u00eames besoins de sommeil et le m\u00eame risque de troubles du sommeil, le type de troubles du sommeil auquel ils sont sujets varie selon le sexe. Les hommes sont plus enclins aux troubles obstructifs du sommeil, en particulier \u00e0 l&rsquo;apn\u00e9e du sommeil. Les femmes, quant \u00e0 elles, ont tendance \u00e0 souffrir de troubles centraux du sommeil, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement ceux qui affectent la capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 s&rsquo;endormir \u00e0 un moment raisonnable et \u00e0 rester endormi. Des affections courantes du corps f\u00e9minin, telles que la grossesse et le syndrome des ovaires polykystiques, peuvent \u00eatre \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine de troubles du sommeil.<\/p>\n<p>De<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dovepress.com\/the-influence-of-sex-and-gonadal-hormones-on-sleep-disorders-peer-reviewed-article-CPT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nouvelles recherches<\/a> permettent de mieux comprendre cette diff\u00e9rence entre les sexes. Cela sugg\u00e8re que certaines hormones f\u00e9minines sont essentielles pour que les femmes dorment bien. En outre, les femmes souffrant d&rsquo;un syndrome pr\u00e9menstruel s\u00e9v\u00e8re ou d&rsquo;un trouble dysphorique pr\u00e9menstruel sont plus susceptibles d&rsquo;avoir des difficult\u00e9s \u00e0 rester endormies et d&rsquo;avoir moins de sommeil paradoxal pendant la phase lut\u00e9ale tardive. Au cours du dernier trimestre de la grossesse, les femmes dorment davantage, mais la qualit\u00e9 de leur sommeil est nettement moins bonne, surtout en ce qui concerne le sommeil paradoxal.<\/p>\n<p>Pendant la m\u00e9nopause, les cycles hormonaux naturels d&rsquo;une femme deviennent irr\u00e9guliers, puis les menstruations cessent compl\u00e8tement. Il n&rsquo;est donc pas surprenant que le sommeil soit alors plus susceptible d&rsquo;\u00eatre perturb\u00e9. Environ la moiti\u00e9 des femmes m\u00e9nopaus\u00e9es font \u00e9tat de troubles du sommeil, en particulier d&rsquo;insomnies. Des \u00e9tudes sur le sommeil ont montr\u00e9 que ces femmes ont \u00e9galement moins de sommeil paradoxal qu&rsquo;il n&rsquo;en faudrait. Cependant, le sexe masculin pr\u00e9sente un taux beaucoup plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 d&rsquo;apn\u00e9e obstructive du sommeil, une maladie dans laquelle les voies respiratoires sont partiellement obstru\u00e9es pendant le sommeil. Le sympt\u00f4me le plus courant et le plus visible de ce trouble est le ronflement, un probl\u00e8me fr\u00e9quent chez les hommes. En fait, environ un quart des hommes aux \u00c9tats-Unis souffrent d&rsquo;apn\u00e9e obstructive du sommeil \u00e0 un degr\u00e9 ou \u00e0 un autre. Les chercheurs pensent que les hormones masculines peuvent \u00e9galement avoir un effet sur les rythmes circadiens et les habitudes de sommeil, bien que le lien exact soit encore \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9tude.<\/p>\n<p>En particulier, la testost\u00e9rone semble \u00eatre li\u00e9e au sommeil. Les niveaux de testost\u00e9rone augmentent pendant le sommeil paradoxal et diminuent ensuite pendant la journ\u00e9e. Les personnes qui n&rsquo;ont pas assez de sommeil paradoxal \u00e0 cause de l&rsquo;apn\u00e9e obstructive du sommeil, par exemple, peuvent souffrir d&rsquo;une baisse de testost\u00e9rone et des nombreux sympt\u00f4mes qui y sont associ\u00e9s. Les hommes souffrant d&rsquo;apn\u00e9e obstructive du sommeil sont \u00e9galement plus susceptibles d&rsquo;avoir un faible taux de testost\u00e9rone, ce qui confirme cette hypoth\u00e8se.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;influence des hormones gonadiques (ou sexuelles) sur le sommeil reste un domaine d&rsquo;\u00e9tude br\u00fblant en chronobiologie. Les changements hormonaux ont clairement un effet sur le sommeil, et la qualit\u00e9 du sommeil peut \u00e0 son tour affecter les niveaux d&rsquo;hormones.
