Par exemple, vers 21 heures, la partie du cerveau qui contr\u00f4le la digestion commence \u00e0 s&rsquo;\u00e9teindre pour la nuit. Les reins, quant \u00e0 eux, se reposent \u00e0 5 heures du matin. Entre 1 et 2 heures de l&rsquo;apr\u00e8s-midi, le cerveau conna\u00eet une accalmie et une sieste s&rsquo;impose.<\/p>\n<h2>Le r\u00f4le du GABA<\/h2>\n<p>Pour les personnes souffrant de troubles de la m\u00e9moire, la fonction du GABA s&rsquo;av\u00e8re \u00eatre un facteur important. En effet, de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re qu&rsquo;elle assure des p\u00e9riodes de repos \u00e0 d&rsquo;autres parties du cerveau, la substance chimique GABA inhibe \u00e9galement l&rsquo;hippocampe, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire l&rsquo;une des zones o\u00f9 se forment, s&rsquo;organisent et se conservent les souvenirs. Lorsque le rythme circadien n&rsquo;est pas align\u00e9, cette suppression c\u00e9r\u00e9brale peut devenir confuse et, au lieu de fournir un repos temporaire, elle peut d\u00e9clencher une inhibition constante de la m\u00e9moire par le GABA. Cela signifie que les nouvelles informations ne parviennent pas \u00e0 \u00eatre stock\u00e9es dans la banque de m\u00e9moire, ce qui peut \u00eatre particuli\u00e8rement dangereux pour les personnes souffrant de probl\u00e8mes tels que la d\u00e9mence ou le syndrome de Down.<\/p>\n<p>Le maintien de l&rsquo;\u00e9quilibre du rythme circadien est essentiel pour que les processus d&rsquo;inhibition c\u00e9r\u00e9brale du GABA soient synchronis\u00e9s avec le rythme plut\u00f4t que d&rsquo;\u00eatre constamment supprim\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>Qu&rsquo;est-ce qui \u00e9quilibre les cycles d&rsquo;inhibition du GABA ? Existe-t-il une substance chimique qui pourrait \u00eatre augment\u00e9e pour les personnes dont les fonctions c\u00e9r\u00e9brales sont trop inhib\u00e9es en raison d&rsquo;un exc\u00e8s de GABA ?<\/p>\n<p>Oui, il y en a une. La substance chimique qui s&rsquo;oppose au GABA est appel\u00e9e pentyl\u00e8ne-t\u00e9trazole, ou PTZ. Cette substance emp\u00eache le GABA d&rsquo;endormir les synapses, ce qui permet au cerveau de continuer \u00e0 fonctionner. Lorsque l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe de Ruby a administr\u00e9 du PTZ \u00e0 des hamsters souffrant de troubles de la m\u00e9moire pour maintenir leur processus de m\u00e9morisation actif, les troubles de la m\u00e9moire ont disparu. Pour ceux qui s&rsquo;efforcent d&rsquo;aider les patients atteints de la maladie d&rsquo;Alzheimer et de la d\u00e9mence, les implications sont passionnantes.
