D&#8217;Ortous de Mairan no fue el primer cient\u00edfico que observ\u00f3 los ritmos biol\u00f3gicos de las plantas, sino el primero que los estudi\u00f3 sistem\u00e1ticamente. Carl Linnaeus observ\u00f3 que las flores se abr\u00edan y cerraban a horas predecibles incluso cuando se encontraban en una habitaci\u00f3n oscura. Darwin observ\u00f3 que las hojas de las plantas parecen \u00abdormir\u00bb por la noche.
