En la \u00faltima d\u00e9cada, los resultados han sido sorprendentes. La exposici\u00f3n al plomo es frecuente en China, sobre todo en las zonas m\u00e1s pobres, donde a\u00fan persiste la pintura con plomo. Seis a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde, cuando los ni\u00f1os ten\u00edan entre nueve y once a\u00f1os, los investigadores evaluaron y documentaron sus patrones de sue\u00f1o con la ayuda de cuestionarios proporcionados a sus padres. Los ni\u00f1os con niveles m\u00e1s altos de plomo en el torrente sangu\u00edneo, iguales o superiores a 10 microgramos de plomo por decilitro de sangre, ten\u00edan dos veces m\u00e1s probabilidades de utilizar somn\u00edferos y tres veces m\u00e1s probabilidades de experimentar insomnio frecuente que los ni\u00f1os con una exposici\u00f3n m\u00ednima o nula al plomo. Se trata de un claro indicio de que el plomo, como factor ambiental, tiene un impacto significativo en los patrones de sue\u00f1o de los ni\u00f1os.
